We are happy to once again be offering our courses to all children, teens, and adults! We’re ready to teach, learn, and have fun in a safe environment. Before registering, please be sure to read our new code of conduct that includes some of the safety protocols we’ve implemented.

The Viva Vida Art Centre offers a variety of art and leisure courses as well as workshops for children, teens and adults, throughout the year.
Our hands-on courses range from 5 to 10 weeks with an ideal environment for exploring one's own creativity as well as learn new skills.

Youth Fine Art
Participants will learn to focus on Fine Art fundamentals such as elements of line, composition, proportion, blending, color theory, etc. by using an array of mediums to create wonderful pieces of art in a variety of styles. We will look at different art styles and take inspiration from artists throughout history to guide students through the artistic learning process.

Soft Pastel Course with Nasim Alavi

Explore the enchanting world of pastel painting in our class where vibrant pigments come alive on paper. Whether you're a beginner or experienced artist, join us for a journey of expression through the gentle touch of pastels.

In this 5 lessons course, Nasim will introduce participants to colour theory, value, temperature, and application techniques. Participants will learn how to set-up and complete an entire pastel paintings by the end of these courses.

Introduction to Oil Painting Course with Patricia Morris
Discover the beauty of traditional oil painting techniques while creating your own landscape compositions.

Classical Oil Painting Course for Intermediate to Beginner with Gordon Pym
The course is designed to help beginners and intermediates who want to improve on their rendering skills using oil paints. The focus will be primarily on creating realistic landscapes but other subjects can be covered. Composition, perspective, advanced colour mixing along with strategies for realistic rendering will be covered. How to plan a painting, size and formats will be discussed. The importance of value in depicting realistic space will stressed. How to use photo references and working from your imagination will be discussed.

Handbuilt Pottery with Patricia Srigley
Learn a variety of fun methods for hand-building in clay. Create freehand dishes and sculptures and a variety of forms, both functional and decorative. Once your pieces have been kiln-fired, you will finish them with glazing techniques to add colour and texture.

Watercolour Course with Micheline Sansregret
In this session of six courses, you will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of this wonderful medium. Each session will include some information regarding which brushes are the best suited for the medium, how to check for the pigments of the new colours that exist, the type of paper to use for the best result and how to keep track of your experiments in a sketchbook!

During these sessions, we will also experiment with pen and ink!

Watercolour Course with Patricia Srigley
Come and experiment a watercolour course of a different kind! Enjoy learning about and expanding your watercolour painting skills. Experiment with a variety of specialized watercolour techniques. Learn about the tools and materials specific to watercolour painting. Practice painting with colour and value, as you have fun developing your own painting style.

Acrylic with Nedia El Khouri
Work on perfecting your painting skills. In this class, we will be working with a variety of acrylic techniques, as well as developing your own creative signature. Weekly demonstrations, presentations, group critiques, and individual mentoring will help participants to progress at their own pace. This course is geared towards students interested in both abstract or figurative painting.

Creative Sampler

WORKSHOP
Chinese Brush Painting with George Hsiung : Bamboo and Birds
Join us Sunday, June 22nd from 10h30 am to 4 pm for a workshop taught by artist George Hsiung! This workshop is for both painters and potters Workshop will consist of Tai Chi to relax the mind and body, traditional Chinese brush painting, and get your Chinese horoscope read! Refreshments will be served.

Oil Painting Workshop with David Kelavey
6 hours, one day workshop with artist David Kelavey! You will get “hands-on” experience with:

This workshop would be helpful for all levels of artist and particularly for those who want to “loosen-up” and gain confidence.
